About Canaan Palestine
Yes. Our Headquarters where all of our products are produced is based in Jenin, Palestine – West Bank. All of Canaan’s employees and the 2,000 family farms we work with are Palestinian and are indigenous to the land of Palestine.Â
All products are produced Canaan Palestine in Jenin, Palestine. Canaan Palestine is a mission-based business headquartered in Jenin. The company sources olive oil and all other ingredients from family farms across the West Bank.Â
Our farmers are located across 54 different villages in the West Bank and mainly concentrated in the middle and northern parts of the West Bank. The majority of our sourcing is from Jenin, Nablus, and Ramallah regions.  Â
Dr. Nasser Abufarha founded both the Canaan Palestine and the Palestine Fair Trade Association (PFTA) to help support the livelihood of the olive farmers in Palestine by establishing “rout to market” for family farmers in Palestine. He built the systems for Canaan, the company; and the farmers’ network to certify organic and fair trade. The PFTA has grown into the largest supplier of Organic and Fair-Trade olive oil in the world. The PFTA was built to organize olive oil production, enable farmers to certify in USDA Organic regulations, and work under Fair-Trade standards. The result was a network of producer’s collectives working systematically on producing high quality olive oil that is both organically and Fair-Trade certified. This network, currently consisting of 54 farmer communities exceeding 2,400 farmers and 3 women cooperatives with a membership of over 100 women, represents the main sources of agricultural goods produced by Canaan Palestine. Canaan has contracts with PFTA collectives and their members to purchase their certified agricultural output every single year based on fair trade terms and pricing negotiated with PFTA collectively. Canaan’s commitment to fair trade producers goes way beyond the market. It includes a total investment in the life of the community, development of the farming capacity, yield increase, supporting them with trees through the Trees for Life Program, raising awareness to their challenges, helping them negotiate obstacles and live their potentials and aspirations.Â
Absolutely! In Palestine, the olive crop is the main source of income for over 100,000 families. An entire year’s work is at stake during the once per year olive harvest and families depend on these returns for their livelihood. Buying Canaan Palestine products from our online store or from any of our 700+ retail outlets across the US would be the ultimate way to ensure the continuation of these traditions for these Palestinian farmers. The foundation of Canaan was to connect the average Palestinian farmer with people like you. Every bottle has a family raising their children behind it to feed the future as it has been done for thousands of years. Networking these traditional farmers under fair-trade standards and linking them to markets in the US is crucial to the viability of these small-scale farms in the modern economy so treat yourself to our ancient olive oil and share our story for others to do the same.Â
General
Yes, our products are certified 100% USDA Organic by ECOCERT S.A.Â
Za’atar and Sweet Olive are partially certified organic. The Za’atar is not fully certified organic due to the inconsistent quantities produced under organic certification for two of the ingredients, Sesame and Sumac. The other ingredients used like olive oil, oregano, and thyme are certified organic. The honey in the Sweet Olive has not yet been certified organic but sourced from the same organic olive farmers. Â
Yes, all our products are certified Fair Trade according to Fair for Life standard. Canaan Palestine also produces Fair Trade International (FLO) certified products European and Asian partners.Â
We ship from a warehouse in WI, U.S. using UPS Ground.Â
After we complete the production and packaging of our products in Palestine we export them to the U.S. for distribution. This is to ease the fulfillment process for all clients in terms of time and cost.Â
We do not offer any discounts or coupons to customers. As a Fair-Trade company that pays its farmers upfront premium prices for their olive oil, offering discounts or coupons is not something that we can offer customers. Especially during difficult times when Palestine is going through ongoing crisis and war. Our company and farmers sometimes face unthinkable challenges from the continued violence in the West Bank. Especially as we continue to witness the heartbreaking destruction of thousands of acres of olive groves amid ongoing bombardment. Canaan Palestine will soon begin to offer subscription options and bundle offers to help customers save more when they buy more. We’re planning this sometime in 2024 so stay tuned!Â

Olive Oil
Yes, our olive oils are first cold pressed, extra virgin, and picked by hand by our 2,000+ family farms across the West Bank from landrace indigenous olive varieties. We set our olive press processing temperature at 28 degrees Celsius.Â
Canaan Palestine’s olive oil was harvested from the last harvest season and has a two-year shelf life.Â
Canaan Palestine’s bottles are dark glass bottles to help protect the olive oil from light. For a more optimal taste, olive oils should be placed in a cool and dry place, away from heat and light. Be sure to close your bottle when not in use.Â
Please recycle your bottles when you are finished with them. We do not have a return bottle program at this time.Â
